Community Town Hall: Understanding the Role of Coroner
The League of Women Voters of Cass County will host a Community Town Hall on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at the Logansport-Cass County Public Library, 616 E. Broadway, Logansport.
The program, “Understanding the Role of the County Coroner,” will give community members an opportunity to learn more about the responsibilities of this important elected office and the Coroner’s role in public safety, death investigations, and assisting families during difficult circumstances.
The Town Hall will explore how the Coroner’s Office works with local law enforcement, emergency medical services, hospitals, funeral homes, and other professionals during a death investigation. Discussion will include what types of deaths require investigation, when an autopsy may be necessary, what families can expect during an investigation, and how the Coroner’s work contributes to public health and community safety.
The program will also address organ and tissue donation, including how the donation process works, how individuals can make their wishes known, and how the time-sensitive donation process is coordinated with death investigations.
Another focus will be helping families understand what they can do in advance of a loved one’s death. Participants will learn about important documents and information families should have available and the steps that follow when a death occurs.
The Town Hall will conclude with a discussion of the funding, challenges, and future priorities of the Cass County Coroner’s Office and provide an opportunity for community members to ask questions.
The event is free and open to the public. League members, prospective members, and all interested community residents are encouraged to attend.
