National Drug Take Back Day

The Logansport Memorial Hospital Foundation and Logansport Memorial Hospital will be hosting our fourth annual Drug Take Back Day. Once again, we will be collaborating with Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Logansport Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration to host this year’s event. National Drug Take Back Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 27 from 10 am – 2 pm, at the main hospital campus.

Staff from LMH, the Sheriff’s Department, and the Police Department and members from the Drug-Free Communities will be located in the circle drive of the hospital and will walk out to your car as you drive up to take unwanted, unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications.

This service is free and anonymous – no questions will be asked about what prescription drugs are being dropped off.

Most unused or expired prescription medications will be accepted. Please feel free to leave your medications in their original packaging or containers. The personal information on your bottles will not be stored in any way and will be destroyed as part of the collection process. Needles and syringes, along with pet medications can also be accepted. For those individuals who plan on bringing sharps, you will be provided a new at Home Sharps container, generously donated by the Cass County Recycling District and the United Way of Cass County.

If you are bringing needles/syringes, please put them in a separate, marked bag when you drop off that day.

The following items cannot and will not be accepted:

• Liquid medications
• Inhalers
• Aerosol cans
• Mercury thermometers
• Iodine-containing medications

Logansport Memorial Hospital is not equipped to dispose of these medications safely and properly on this scheduled day. National Drug Take Back Day is a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs at locations in communities across the country. The United States Drug Enforcement Administration offers these specific days to help provide a way for medications to be safely and properly disposed, before they can be obtained by others for potential misuse. Unused medications thrown in the trash can be retrieved or abused, or illegally sold. If they are flushed, they can contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused and unwanted drugs saves lives and protects the environment.
