Peer and Facilitator led support groups with Bowen Center. In partnership with Project HOPE 929 with funding from Partners for a Drug Free Cass County.
Additional Details…
The groups will work on creating protective factors. It will primarily focus on social skills building, as well as avoiding peer pressure and substance use. Topics such as coping skills, processing feelings, emotions, behaviors and reactions, dealing with drama, managing stress, handling being sad, etc. will be discussed. This group offers a way to connect with an adult mentor, as well as a way to interact and share their experiences with their peers. Additionally, the facilitator can adjust and adapt the discussions based on the group and their needs. There are a number of topics that can be addressed as conversations occur.
The group will be able to reach up to 15 participants weekly. The hope is that the youth who participate will learn how to better engage with peers as well as adults. They will learn some key social skills that youth are struggling with. They will be able to reconnect with peers and learn the appropriate ways to interact and seek help for issues they may be experiencing. This is a mental health group and we encourage youth to seek support in others as they may need it.
These groups will be facilitated by a skill-based provider through the Bowen Center. Additional support may be provided if necessary.
