The Family Birth Center at Logansport Memorial Hospital is now offering a new Sibling Class. This class is designed to help big brothers or sisters-to-be adjust to having a new baby in the family. Talking about what it means to be a big brother or sister helps your little one explore the new feelings they are experiencing. Mom is encouraged to schedule the class nearest to her due date. An adult must accompany the child.

The next Sibling Class will be held:  Saturday, October 20  9 – 11 am  Broadway Room (formerly Conference Room A/B)

The class is taught by Family Birth Center staff, and a doctor’s referral is not necessary. There is no charge for the class for parents or partners who plan to deliver at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

All of our Family Birth Center classes can now be offered in Spanish. When you call to register, please let them know you will need a translator for your class and we will have one available.

The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce that a very special Halloween event will be held on Sunday, October 21st. Boofest will run from 1-3 pm at Riverside Park.

Additional activities during BOO-Fest include: Hayrides around the park, Face Painting, with the Logansport High School Sub-Debs, Carousel rides will be $1.00 and run from 1-3 pm and a bonfire, with the Super Heroes and Fire Department, to roast marshmallows and the Logan Lovelies softball game.

Refreshments are also being served by the Logansport Police Department. They will be serving hotdogs, and a pepsi.

Students can complete enrollment for spring semester classes

 KOKOMO – Ivy Tech Community College’s Kokomo and Logansport campuses are participating in statewide Express Enrollment Days Oct. 23 and 24 to offers an efficient way to complete enrollment and registration requirements to be ready when spring semester begins Jan. 11.

Express Enrollment services will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Ivy Tech locations in both Kokomo and Logansport.

In addition to registering for classes, students can complete FYIvy, an online introduction to the college; get financial aid information; meet with an advisor, and sign up for in-person orientation. Those who have not yet completed an assessment to determine appropriate class placement (required before meeting with an advisor) can do that as well. To meet the assessment requirement, students should bring SAT/ACT/PSAT scores and high school or college transcripts, or take the Accuplacer assessment if needed.

The Cass County Health Department will be offering free seasonal flu vaccines to children 6 months to 18 years of age on Wednesday, October 24th by appointment only. This clinic is only for children 6 months to 18 years of age who have Medicaid, no health insurance or have health insurance that does not cover flu vaccine. Please call 574-753-7760 to schedule an appointment.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone at least six months of age and older receive flu vaccine. This flu season only injections will be available.

The Cass County Health Department is located at 512 High Street.

Students can complete enrollment for spring semester classes

 KOKOMO – Ivy Tech Community College’s Kokomo and Logansport campuses are participating in statewide Express Enrollment Days Oct. 23 and 24 to offers an efficient way to complete enrollment and registration requirements to be ready when spring semester begins Jan. 11.

Express Enrollment services will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Tuesday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Ivy Tech locations in both Kokomo and Logansport.

In addition to registering for classes, students can complete FYIvy, an online introduction to the college; get financial aid information; meet with an advisor, and sign up for in-person orientation. Those who have not yet completed an assessment to determine appropriate class placement (required before meeting with an advisor) can do that as well. To meet the assessment requirement, students should bring SAT/ACT/PSAT scores and high school or college transcripts, or take the Accuplacer assessment if needed.

Logan’s Landing announces the return of your favorite downtown Halloween traditions. On Thursday October 25th from 4-6, participating merchants in downtown Logansport will hand out treats to costumed trick-or-treaters during the Downtown Spooktacular, so bring the kids on down! Afterwards, kids can participate in the annual Elks Halloween Parade immediately following the trick-or-treating. And be sure to check out the entries in this year’s Scarecrow Row competition, located along Market Street and Broadway.

Downtown Spooktacular participating businesses will be announced by social media and local media. Look for the Spooktacular signs at participating locations.

The 130-year history of the Logansport State Hospital is on display at the museum. Museum volunteers will lead tours, answer questions, and explain the many different ways that mental health treatment in the United States was practiced here at the Hospital. Admission is free and is open to all.

Directions:
From Old State Road 25: Turn north into the hospital entrance and continue across the railroad tracks to the four-way stop sign. Turn right, continuing past the Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility administration building. Veer right as the road splits, and the Longcliff Museum will be on the left. Parking is available on the north side (facing the Wabash River) and the west side of the Museum.
From Cliff Drive: Turn south into the hospital entrance just west of the U.S. 35 overpass and continue up the hill. Drive slowly—the road is narrow and uphill with sharp curves. The museum parking lot will be in front of you at the top of the hill at the old Administration Building, next to the Fogel Rehabilitation Building.
