Jun 20 all-day

With Consolidated Union and SIHO Insurance as the event sponsors, this year’s 32nd annual tournament will take place on Wednesday, June 20 at Dykeman Park in Logansport. All golfers receive a round of golf, cart and green fees, and eligibility to win awards and prizes. The tournament format is a 4-person scramble with two flights at 8 am and 1 pm. Registration begins one hour prior to tee time. Sign up as a single or with a foursome!

There are also various sponsorship opportunities available, including for raffles, hole signs, carts, and more. Tournament payouts include longest drive, closest to the pin, corn hole, a betting hole, skirts, and mulligans. For complete details on what’s available, please contact the Foundation directly.

Once again, this year’s special theme for our 32nd annual celebration is “Putting Fore a Purpose” and the proceeds from the event will be designated to help fund student scholarships and purchase hospital equipment and technology. Your participation assures that the Foundation will be able to continue providing support for new or existing community-based healthcare initiatives at Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Express Enrollment Day
Jun 21 @ 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

KOKOMO – People interested in kickstarting their future can register for fall classes at Ivy Tech Community College’s Express Enrollment Days on Thursday, June 21, and Saturday, June 23.

Express Enrollment Days provide one-stop shopping for all enrollment and registration needs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 21 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23 at Ivy Tech locations in both Kokomo (1815 E. Morgan St.) and Logansport (1 Ivy Tech Way).

In addition to registering for classes, students can complete FYIvy, an online introduction to the college; get financial aid information; meet with an advisor, and sign up for in-person orientation. Those who have not yet completed an assessment to determine appropriate class placement (required before meeting with an advisor) can do that as well. To meet the assessment requirement, students should bring SAT/ACT/PSAT scores and high school or college transcripts, or take the Accuplacer exam if needed.

‘The Express Enrollment events are also a great time to get a jump on paying for that education,’ said Mary King, assistant director of financial aid for Ivy Tech’s Kokomo Service Area, ‘including an opportunity to complete the easy, online application that is used to check eligibility for all scholarships offered by Ivy Tech.’

“With more than $135,000 in scholarships available for Ivy Tech Kokomo Service Area students, the investment of about 30 minutes to fill out the application is a great use of time,” King said.

“While students can apply for financial aid at any time, July 15 is the deadline for priority processing for the fall semester,” she continued. “We will start awarding scholarship dollars the next day so students who file their applications by this date will be in the pool to have the best chance for as much money as possible.”

Marcia Worland, vice chancellor for Enrollment Services for Ivy Tech Kokomo, said, “With these extended hours, you have an opportunity to walk in and get all the steps completed so you’re
ready for fall semester. We will have staff available at both locations to help prospective students wherever they are in the enrollment process.”

Ivy Tech recommends that students come with a government-issued photo identification, 2016 tax information, and SAT/ACT/PSAT scores and high school or college transcripts. For more information, visit www.ivytech.edu/EEDay.

Members of the admissions team are available to ask questions in advance. Contact Tammy Herschberger at therschberger@ivytech.edu or 765-252-5487 for the Kokomo Campus event at 1815 E. Morgan St., Kokomo, or Jovita Flores at jflores26@ivytech.edu or 574-398-6097 for the Logansport Campus event at 1 Ivy Tech Way, Logansport.

Cass County Amateur Radio Club Field Day
Jun 23 – Jun 24 all-day

The Cass County Emergency Management Agency will be the site of a 24 hour communications exercise on June 23-24. The event will begin at 2pm on Saturday, June 23rd.

Members of the Cass County Amateur Radio Club will be participating in the annual American Radio Relay League Field Day event. Thousands of amateur radio operators throughout the United States and Canada will participate in the 24-hour event.

Cass county amateur radio operators will set-up their radios and antennas at the Cass County EMA building at 1227 N. State Road 17 again this year. The goal is to try and make as many contacts with other stations as possible during the simulated emergency drill. There will also be a “Get On The Air” station set-up so the general public can get on the air and make contacts with the assistance of a club member. Marion Bell Jr. of Logansport is the chairman of the local Field Day event.

Amateur radio operators assist in providing emergency communications services to the community when other forms of communications are down, due to natural or man-made disasters, or technical problems. Ham radio operators can operate their equipment using generators, solar panels or batteries. They have access to thousands of radio frequencies providing local, regional and world-wide communications. Amateur radio operators use a number of modes including, voice, digital and video to get messages through during times of disaster. Ham radio operators can also communicate using low-earth orbit satellites.

Local officials and the public are invited to learn about amateur radio and see the local amateur radio operators in action by attending the Field Day event. For more information visit the Club’s website at: www.w9vmw.org  or www.arrl.org.
